St Lucia Extends Passport Validity to 10 Years for Adults

Great news for Saint Lucia passport holders! The government of Saint Lucia has officially announced a change in the validity period of its passports, aiming to make the process more efficient and aligned with international standards.

What’s Changing?

Previously, Saint Lucia passports were valid for five years, regardless of the applicant’s age. This meant that both children and adults had to renew their passports every five years.

Under the new policy, the passport validity will now depend on the age of the applicant:

  • Adults (18 years and older): Passport validity will be 10 years.
  • Minors (under 18 years old): Passport validity will remain at 5 years.

Once a child turns 18, they can renew their passport, and the new one will be valid for 10 years.

Why the Change?

This update brings Saint Lucia in line with many other countries that already issue 10-year passports for adults. It reduces the frequency of renewals for adults, which means:

  • Less paperwork
  • Lower renewal costs over time
  • More convenience for frequent travelers and investors

For minors, the 5-year validity remains appropriate, as children’s facial features change significantly as they grow, and regular updates are necessary for accurate identification.

Who Does This Affect?

This change applies to all Saint Lucia passport holders, including those who obtained their passports through the St Lucia Citizenship by Investment (CBI) Program. Adults renewing or applying for their passports will now receive a 10-year document if they are 18 or older.

What Should You Do?

If you already have a 5-year passport and you’re 18 or older, your passport will remain valid until its expiry date. Once it’s time to renew, you’ll be issued a new passport valid for 10 years.

If you’re applying for the first time and you’re over 18, your new passport will be valid for 10 years immediately.
